The 2039 Coquimbo earthquake was a powerful magnitude 8.4 megathrust earthquake that occurred off the coast of Coquimbo, Chile on August 15, 2039. The earthquake lasted for 3 minutes, 17 seconds, tearing buildings down as the liquified soil was no longer able to support the foundations. The earthquake led to a total of 5,679 deaths, and $24 billion in damages. It was the worst earthquake in tgis area of the world since the the 2010 Chile earthquake, which was a magnitude 8.8. In addition to this, a 12 metre tsunami came ashore 20 minutes later, leading to much of the debris being washed out into the Pacific as a result of this.
